Nelson Edewor

Professor Nelson Edewor is a Post-Doctoral scholar of the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS), University of London, London (2012). His tertiary training started in 1989 at the University of Benin, Benin City, specializing in sculpture. Obtaining an MFA (sculpture, 1998) at the same university and later M.A and Ph.D degrees (Art History, 2006 and 2009) at the Delta State University, Abraka, Nelson bestrides both studio and art History practice. He has numarous Exhibitions and Paper publications to his credit. He has been lecturing sculpture and Art History at the Delta State University since 2000.
Nelson’s studio practice which explores mortar, wood, fibre glass and recently bronze. He evolved a new formal register that expresses petroleum oil exploitation and environmental degradation of the Niger Delta which is synthesis of Ivri traditional forms of the Isoko/ Urhobo cultures and pipes of petroleum oil exploration. It is important to note that Nelson’s studio practice has attracted numerous scholarly papers as well as Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D researches. Three of his works are part of the permanent exhibition at the presidential conference room (Aso Rock, Abuja). He is married and blessed with three boys.
